First day after surgery!

After a long night following a successful surgery, Danielle is on her way to recovery. The surgeon feels that the operation went well. Final results of the biopsy should be obtained within the next week. After surgery Danielle was awake, talking, and answering questions. She was able to recognize all of her family members, able to move and feel her arms and legs, she could drink sprite, and give out her orders.

Today Danielle had a rough morning. Then after lunch, she was comfortable.
She sat up in bed, turned side to side, and lifted her head to see all the SNOW falling in Memphis. Yes, that is right it is SNOWING here. Tomorrow she may be able to get out of bed.

Overall, Danielle is doing great. Please continue to pray for a speedy recovery.

Hi Everybody,

We'll things are ok I am taking lot's of test and MRI's. I did a swallow test today and now I have to put (thick-it) in all my drinks so I do not aspirate. I met my doctor who will do the biopsy on me Friday and he says it looks good for me during the surgery. It shouldn't be a large cut but I am scared. My vocal cords do not work well on the Right side and The doctors say I have been compensating with the left side. They will have to be careful not to go in on the left side that could cause problems for me. I marched in a Mardi Gras parade today, well it was in the hospital with all the other children and we also had a party at the Grizzley House. There was a photographer there and he took my picture alot for the hospital newspaper. I went to the zoo and the children's museum and I went to the Peabody Hotel to see the Ducks march. My godfather and his wife came to visit that was fun and my Nannie has been here to help with IV's and such. It will take a week for me to heal after my test and then they will decide if radiation or cemo. but I might have to have both as a treatment, but thats ok if it makes that tumor smaller.
I miss my friends at school and my family and my dog. LOVE ALL

Everything seems to be going well. Met with Doctors today MRI took longer than expected about an hour longer. Danielle seems to be in good spirits but very scared. All the children are happy and all have smiles over here. Such a wonderful place. We have lot's of hope and will not give up. Not sure but might have to use cemo. and radiation. Will be meeting with doctors again and have another MRI in the morning. Will let you'll know how things turn out when we get solid info. Please pray she is so very brave and sweet to everyone.

our journey

And so our journey begins.

What a whirlwind it's been since that Monday we found out that Danielle has a gliomas tumor on her brain stem. It's funny how something so small can change your life so greatly, in an instant.

Since that Monday, she's seen multiple doctors, driving all over the state and even Texas, hearing vastly different, but also agreeing diagnoses. But it'll be St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis where Danielle will heal. And that's where she's bound tomorrow afternoon.

We've already received so much love and support here at home and from around the country, as prayer chains are being spread and family and friends are keeping Danielle in their daily thoughts and prayers. Danielle's family has begun a weekly rosary and her classmates threw her a big, warm going-away party and will continue to pray for her. We want to say thank you to everyone, and keep it up!

How something so harmful can grow in such a witty, loving, charming girl is a great mystery to us all. The reality we deal with is it's here. But so are we. Her parents, her family, her friends and classmates, her teachers and St. Jude.

Small things can change your life. And that's what Danielle did to us when she arrived 8 years ago. Her life will change in the coming weeks, as well. Being in a new place, new people, new doctors, treatments that will bring on temporary sickness. There will be ups and downs.

We welcome you to walk this road to recovery with Danielle every step of the way, and continue to pray for her speedy healing. With her spunk, we know she'll show that tumor who's boss. Yes sir, we believe its met its match.

Stayed tuned to "the boss danielle" blog for future posts! We wish Danielle and her parents safe travels as they leave on a jet plane to Memphis tomorrow.

Danielle, we can't wait to have you back!
